OOC ((Out Of Character)) Rules:

1.) Register with the FIRST AND LAST NAME of your character only. Good examples: Bob Bobberson, Mary Smith, Ralph Hoover. Bad examples: doctorwholovah90210, bobbobberson, Bob_Bobberson).

2. You may have two characters in total. We recommend you begin with one and establish their personality and presence on the board before registering a second.

3.) No spamming! This means you do not post to advertise or harass or just to be posting. Please be thoughtful when posting, try to be contributing something to the thread. We encourage you to have fun and get to know your fellow players, but please do so in a manner that is constructive and fun.

4.) Be respectful to all members on this board; players and staff included. This includes, but is not limited to, harassing, teasing, making fun of, picking fights with, annoying, or otherwise being rude or hateful via PM, thread, or chatbox. If you have an issue with a player, please try and resolve it off the board.

5.) Avatars may be no larger than 150x200 pixels, and signatures may be no larger than 500x300 pixels.

6.) If you choose to have a live model represent your character, we require that they resemble the age of your character. This means you cannot have half dressed thirty year olds representing your fourteen year old freshman.

7.) There is no face claiming for character models. This means anyone has the right to use any model to represent their character regardless of who is currently or previously using them.

8.) Please do not ask to be on staff or play a Professor. If we have an opening or require assistance, we will ask you.

IC ((In Character)) Rules:

1.) Post as if your character has been at Whistlestop all year long. There are no mid-year transfers or registrations.

2.) Only students living in America attend Whistlestop. There are more schools in other geographic locations of the US where students could chose to attend. This means, your character's family must reside in America, but it is possible for the family to originate from anywhere else in the world.

3.) No one is permitted to skip a grade at Whistlestop. Because of the training required to master their abilities, students are given four full years of education, so all students have been attending Whistlestop since their Freshman year. Should a student fail a school year, they are required to make it up with summer sessions. Therefore, no one is held back at Whistlestop.

4.) No Gary-Stus/Mary-Sues Just remember that your character is not invincible or perfect! Try to keep them as realistic as possible on a board with super powers.

5.) The only character you control is your own. This means you cannot dictate the actions of another player without their permission (even if it is your gifted power). This also means that you cannot do harm or damage to other characters without the permission of the driver. So you are welcome to try and punch the fellow calling you names, but you cannot say whether you hit them or not. You are welcome to try and pull their pants down with your telepathy, but you cannot say you were successful. It is up to that driver to decide. The best approach is to PM the other driver and ask their permission first.

6.) Because of the sensitive nature of the subjects, mental illness, abuse, and teen pregnancies are not permitted on this board. If they comprise your character’s history alluding to them is permitted, but dragging them out for your own entertainment is not.

7.) If your character (or you) is saying/writing something in a language other than English, please provide a translation at the bottom of your post.

8.) Proper spelling and grammar is required when posting. If English is not your first language, please let an Admin know! Likewise, one line posts are not permitted. When posting, please try to add something to the thread to help advance it and give the other players something to work with in responding.

9.) The tasteful use of strong language and mature content is permitted sparingly. If you’re not sure, don’t do it.

10.) No OOC posts in IC areas. The exception to this is when you add ((out)) to the end of your posts to signify that you are exiting a thread. Smilies and other emoticons are not permitted in the IC area outside of Journals and IM convo’s

11.) Remember that IC and OOC are two different worlds! Just because Bob’s character has a problem with your character does not mean they have a problem with you. IC drama shouldn't become OOC drama.

12.) Because Whistlestop values quality over quantity, we do have a thread limit. Your character is only permitted to be in FIVE active threads at any given time. Classes do NOT count towards your thread limit.

13.) You are allowed the use of ONE NPC (Non Player Character). This NPC can only be played in one out of your five threads and in the Oak Grove section of the board. This is to insure the integrity of the school, but also give you the chance to have a bit of fun for extra character development. Also, same IC rules apply to this NPC. You are welcome to change the font color for your NPC when posting, but it is not necessary.

Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Warnings & Consequences

Rules are no good if they are not enforced, so in order to maintain peace on this board we do have consequences for those who do not adhere to our guidelines. These rules are here to keep things fair and happy for all players involved in this game. They are not meant to hinder or frustrate you, but rather to offer structure and level the playing field for everyone.

Your first week on the board is a grace period in which we allow you to acclimate to our environment and rules. Our staff will give you helpful reminders and tips if we see anything that might help you to get used to the way we do things around here. After this, we do expect you to have familiarized yourself with the rules enough to be responsible for your own actions.

First Offense. You will be sent a PM from our staff addressing the issue and help you to correct it.

Second Offense. You will be sent a PM from an Administrator addressing the issue and help you to correct it.

Third Offense. You will be given an official warning that another offense will result in your being banned.

Fourth Offense. You will be banned from the board for anywhere from 1 week to a permanent ban depending on the severity of your offense.
